On World Environment Day, Society Expo 2026 presents one of its key international highlights: Our Time on Earth, an independent, English-language knowledge programme taking place in Skellefteå, northern Sweden, on Friday, June 5, 2026.
The programme brings together Johan Rockström, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and Professor in Earth System Science at the University of Potsdam, and Mattias Klum, artist, NatGeo Explorer, photographer and filmmaker, for the lecture The Human Quest – Abundance within Planetary Boundaries.
Together, Rockström and Klum will explore how human wellbeing can develop within the planet’s sustainable limits, and what is required to navigate the global societal transformation now facing communities, cities and nations across the world.
Society Expo 2026 is a 14-day international platform dedicated to dialogue, collaboration and societal transformation. Taking place in a region undergoing one of Europe’s most rapid transitions, the Expo asks a central and urgent question: can societies adapt and change fast – and still be sustainable?
Our Time on Earth combines science, visual storytelling and reflection. Despite the seriousness of the subject, the programme carries a strong and hopeful message. The lecture will be followed by a conversation and audience Q&A, and is aimed at both the general public and professional audiences.
The programme takes place on World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5 as the United Nations’ global day for environmental awareness and action.
