Last Saturday, Vallentuna Municipality, located north of Stockholm, proudly inaugurated their new sustainability project: The Vallentuna Wetlands Park.
The event featured an inspiring inaugural speech by Mattias Klum. Klum’s address highlighted the significance of the wetlands park in promoting ecological balance and enhancing local biodiversity.
The Vallentuna Wetlands Park, situated in the meadows south of Vallentuna center near the mouth of Ormstaån into Lake Vallentuna, serves a crucial role in purifying stormwater from central Vallentuna. The park channels this water via Ormstaån into Lake Vallentuna. The wetlands consist of three separate ponds surrounded by meadows that will blossom into flower fields.
This initiative, much like previous green efforts in central Vallentuna, aims to improve the health of Lake Vallentuna and boost biodiversity in the area. The excavated soil from the project has been largely reused, contributing to flood protection near Stockholmsvägen and reducing waste by up to 40%.
