In a recent conversation at Örebro University, artist, NatGeo Explorer, photographer and filmmaker Mattias Klum explored the connections between the human body, nature, and art. The discussion centered around Inside Out—an exhibition created in collaboration with the university—where microscopic images from the human gut are juxtaposed with dramatic natural landscapes.
“The idea that these landscapes are so similar,” says Klum, was the spark for the project, which aims to show how inner and outer worlds reflect each other. The exhibition was shown in Stockholm’s Hedvig Eleonora Church this summer and also features in a podcast with Örebro professor Robert Brummer.
Brummer highlights how combining science with art can inspire new perspectives: “If we raise knowledge to the level of art, it may awaken new thoughts in viewers.”
The exhibition also marked the end of Klum’s assignment as senior advisor at Örebro University, with a focus on sustainability.
