May 22, 2026

In a recent feature in Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, Mattias Klum was one of three profiles invited to reflect on the impact of Sir David Attenborough, who turns 100.

Mattias Klum describes Attenborough as one of the icons who made it easier for him to choose his own path. He emphasizes the power behind pioneers such as Dian Fossey, Jane Goodall and David Attenborough, noting that their work is far more than a traditional profession — it is a calling and a life’s mission.

Klum also highlights Attenborough’s unique voice, tone and storytelling ability. Over decades, Attenborough has built an unparalleled legacy together with his teams, including through the production company Silverback Films.

“David Attenborough is probably the greatest ambassador this planet has ever had,” Klum says in the interview.

He points to Attenborough’s remarkable ability to elevate even the smallest wonders, from microorganisms to blue whales, and to shift the conversation from individual species to entire ecosystems. Through this, Attenborough has become one of the strongest voices inspiring humanity to undertake the vital transformative journey needed for the future of life on Earth.
