Photo Contest to Celebrate Neighborliness

February 3, 2024

In an effort to shed light on the positive impacts of neighborly relations and to foster a sense of community and safety in neighborhoods, Svensk Fastighetsförmedling, in collaboration with acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Mattias Klum, is initiating a photo competition and a call to action. This initiative comes in response to a growing concern over the decline in interactions amongst neighbors in Sweden, despite evidence suggesting that such relationships contribute to a sense of well-being, safety, and reduced feelings of loneliness.

The contemporary societal climate, marked by worries about increasing serious crime, global and economic instability, and a general disillusionment with the future, has exacerbated feelings of isolation and insecurity among individuals. Many report feeling disconnected from their local communities. Research conducted by Svensk Fastighetsförmedling indicates that fostering good neighborly relations can be part of the solution, providing a sense of belonging and security through simple daily interactions, such as a friendly greeting.
